![]() ![]() In terms of content, the developers at CD Projekt Red have succeeded in creating an outstanding computer game. Is it possible, for example, that an artificial intelligence develops consciousness and consequently experiences psychological problems? Dancing palm trees cloud the overall pictureĪll of that is one side. In addition, “Cyberpunk 2077” raises philosophical questions in an entertaining way about how technology could change our lives in the future. ![]() During the course of the game, V comes up against the digital spirit of the rock star and cyber terrorist. The character of Johnny Silverhand, played by Keanu Reeves, is particularly successful. For example for V’s neighbor Barry, who hasn’t come to work for a few days since he lost a friend. You quickly develop sympathies – even for rather unimportant minor characters. The characters are also well drawn, the dialogues consistent. Eleven radio stations with mostly specially composed music from reggaeton to black metal make the long car journeys, which V cannot avoid on the way through town, more than bearable. If V walks past a street stall, you can overhear two police officers arguing about their last mission. Techno booms, people shout, shots are fired. The game penetrates quickly, especially acoustically.īecause it’s never really quiet in Night City. On the one hand, the narrative style and the many details that can be experienced in Night City immediately draw you into the gloomy vision of the future. A kind of elixir of immortality, only – in keeping with cyberpunk – in the form of a computer chip. For an order, an implant is to be obtained that virtually makes you immortal. V hires out as a mercenary with various sizes from the criminal milieu. The background can influence the outcome of the story in some places. V has either grown up on the street, in the wasteland outside the city or as the child of a wealthy business family. The player controls the protagonist V or the protagonist V – he decides the gender himself, as well as the nail polish pattern, the pubic hairstyle and the background story. The result is an open world role-playing game. For more than eight years, the Polish company CD Projekt Red worked on “Cyberpunk 2077” – in exchange with Pondsmith. Now his ideas are also available as a computer game. His pen-and-paper role-playing games “Cyberpunk 2013” and “Cyberpunk 2020” have significantly shaped the science fiction subgenre of the same name. This is the scenario that game inventor Mike Pondsmith envisioned for the future in 1988. Corrupt mega-corporations and criminal gangs rule the world and have widened the gap between rich and poor. The rich and beautiful, on the other hand, float above the city in flying cars. However, the people in the alleys are far from a high-tech, bright future, many are homeless. Huge skyscrapers pile up in the metropolis, neon signs bathe the streets in pink light, basses throb at every corner. Night City is the location of “Cyberpunk 2077”. The children on the streets of Night City already have chips under their skin and high-tech prostheses. More memory space in the brain, reinforced ankles or the rocket launcher for the forearm? The treatment of seams in the adhesive method is the same as with wallpaper. ![]() If you have access to an air compressor, a $100 upholstery stapler makes this task far simpler. The mechanical method consists of “framing” the perimeter of each wall with a tacking strip such as lath that has been affixed into the studs, and then tacking or stapling the fabric onto the strips. This method requires less preparation, but eliminates the sound-deadening and luxury-enhancing batting. The former means applying liquid starch onto the wall with a roller and essentially pasting up the fabric and smoothing it as if it were wallpaper. There are two basic methods for attaching fabric to walls: adhesive and mechanical. But it is the ultimate treatment for a treasured nook, dining room, or bedchamber. The effort required for fabric-lined walls is indeed more than for paint or wallpaper. Thus, a gentle vacuuming (low suction, with an upholstery brush accessory), done with minimal abrasion, ensures cleanliness and a longer lifespan for your wall treatment. Dust is the enemy of all fabrics and finishes, as it traps humidity against the decorative material and accelerates decay. Robert Kime’s woodsy ‘Hydrangea’ was applied as a paper-backed linen design by Barry Dixon.įabric walls require little maintenance. To further enhance the dramatic effect, various treatments can be given the edges of the fabric: hidden staples covered with upholstery gimp, trim, or ribbon or decorative tack heads left exposed.įabric lining is an unexpected treatment for the walls that become a ceiling in an attic sleeping room. Batting also deadens the acoustics in the room, for that hushed sensibility. The result is a slight fuller appearance, and you will hear no “thunk” if someone or something bumps the wall. Often, a layer of batting-a thin, puffy sheet of upholstery padding-is attached to the wall before it is covered, to add sumptuousness. The author recently added upholstered walls to an opulent “Turkish room” niche in his house. For this reason, try to avoid upholstery-weight goods, instead seeking those suitable for lighter applications (as long as it does not inhibit the intended scheme). When selecting a fabric, bear in mind that the weight of the material will be at the mercy of gravity-the heavier the cloth, the more chance of eventual sagging. Material woven to emulate tapestry has long been a favorite of 19th- and early 20th-century upholsterers, and is still available in myriad colors and patterns. Silk damasks have always been popular for French or Neoclassical interiors, either covering entire walls or as panels inset and framed with decorative Arabesque moldings. ![]() The concept continued through the Craftsman era, when burlap and other coarse textiles were affixed between the battens of wainscots, particularly in dining rooms.įabrics selected should be harmonious with the room’s décor. Using fabric on walls has always signaled wealth and good taste, given the material and labor involved. Functionally, such a treatment kept drafty rooms warmer, as did carpeting, but covering the walls was even more effective. The result is understated opulence.įabric-lined walls are a longstanding tradition, traced back to the hung tapestries of the Middle Ages and the silk wall hangings in the rooms of 18th-century nobility. Designer Barry Dixon applied batting and soft gray Rogers & Goffigon mohair to the walls of a New York City loft to absorb sound. ![]() ![]() ![]() However, other parameters such as the fat content of the cream and its acidity play a role in generating good butter. Well into the 19th century butter was still made from cream that had been allowed to stand and sour. Centrifugation is a technique for separating suspended particles from liquids that involves spinning the mixture at a high speed in centrifuge equipment.Ĭhurning is the process of using a butter churn to agitate cream or whole milk to make butter. Because the solids arent soluble in the butter, they tend to clump up, which reduces the quality of the texture of the chocolate, it feels less 'smooth. Continue boiling until the liquid has reduced down to about 2 tablespoons, about 30 to 40 minutes. Heat the wine, vinegar, and shallot in a saucepan over high heat until the liquid boils. In order to make a beurre monté, boil a very small quantity of water, 1-2 oz. Many (but not all) butter-based cakes call for you to cream butter and sugar, add eggs, then follow with dry ingredients and milk. It is versatile as a sauce, as an ingredient for other sauces, as a poaching medium, or as a resting medium for cooked meats.
